Our journey begins today as we travel through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. This afternoon we check in to our lovely accommodations. We overnight for two nights at either the Canaan Valley Resort or Blackwater Falls Resort. Relax and enjoy your stay. Evening dinner is included. (D)

We have a short drive to Romney where we will board the scenic Potomac Eagle and travel along the peaceful South Branch of the Potomac River, one of the most picturesque railroads in the US. Fall comes to Western Maryland and West Virginia wrapped in a glorious coat of color that is mostly unseen from the highway. This narrated passenger train excursion takes us through narrow valleys containing the pristine waters of the South Branch and gently curves along the valley wall through lush mountain greenery and offers a view of the river and its wildlife few other travelers can see. This is the Eastern home of the American Bald Eagle where the high valley walls and clear river water provide the seclusion and excellent fishing the eagle requires. Keep your camera ready and don’t be surprised to see the magnificent flyers soaring overhead. A boxed lunch is included on the train. We return to our hotel. Dinner is included again this evening. After a delicious breakfast, we make our way into Pennsylvania’s beautiful laurel highlands where we visit “Fallingwater,” designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family in 1936. The house is cantilevered over a mountain waterfall and is considered the most important example of modern architecture in the world. The fall foliage throughout Pennsylvania should be spectacular today. We spend the night in the Pittsburgh area. This evening we enjoy a dinner cruise aboard the Gateway Clipper Riverboat. The captain will expertly narrate sights we’ll pass along the way. (On the October 20th & October 27th Departures, we will include a ride on the Monongahela Incline and dinner at the Grand Concourse Restaurant, instead of the dinner cruise.) (D)

We depart Pittsburgh continuing into the West Virginia mountains. We’ll stop at Tamarack, a one-stop-shop for West Virginia culture, heritage, fine art, regional cuisine and music. We’ve seen the best of Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania’s fall colors.
